About this event

Community

The Judith Shakespeare Writers Group is a low-pressure, community oriented group of writers and creatives committed to growing our creative practice through support, accountability, practice, and encouragement. All are welcome (virtual and in-person participants). More Info — What makes Judith Shakespeare different? No final product requirement! While you will likely amass a creative portfolio through regular attendance of the group, there is no requirement to produce a “finished” work at the end of this, giving you the freedom to explore any ideas that come to you. Equal time dedicated to writing and sharing. Judith Shakespeare sessions are designed to offer time to write on a prompt, write freely, and to share work with others. The accountability of a writing class with the freedom of a drop-in writing group. Participants will sign up for time to share in advance of each session, ensuring accountability on both the individual and group level. However, what you choose to share and the type of feedback you receive is up to you, ensuring a discussion that is community-driven rather than teacher-driven.  About the Facilitator Olivia Broderick (she/her) is a performer, writer, and educator dedicated to empowering students of all ages to expand their creative horizons. Her multi-disciplinary work focuses on the unruly body, ancestry and family history, and cultural mythologies about women. She has been published by Hyacinth Review, The Lovers Literary Journal, Armstrong Lit, the tide rises the tide falls litmag, and MyrtleHaus Magazine. Her nonfiction prose piece, “Where Everyone Would Love to Drown,” was nominated for Best of the Net 2023. Upcoming projects include Museum Pieces, a collaboration with composer Russell Henry Holbert, which was previewed at The Perch's monthly Open Mic Night and is set to have its full premiere in 2025. She holds a Bachelors of Music from Temple University, a certificate in Teaching English as a Second/Other Language from Teachers College, Columbia University, and a Masters of Arts in English Rhetoric and Composition from Carnegie Mellon University, where she studied writing pedagogy with a focus on developing writerly voice in emerging English writers. She has served as a teaching artist in the creative arts with Multicultural Academy Charter School and Arts at Covenant, and has served as an educational outreach performer with Opera Theatre of Montclair and Wilmington Concert Opera. She currently resides in Philadelphia, where she can be found singing opera, patronizing her local pickle vendor, and doting on her feline child.
