Missing out kept happening like the plague. Part of it was that I was in a new town and simply could not figure out what was going on, but it got worse every time I traveled. Drop me into a city for a conference or a week with family and finding something worth doing became genuinely hard. It always felt to me like it should not be this difficult.
And it shouldn't be, because the events exist. Somebody published each one somewhere. It is on Instagram, or a Facebook page, or a venue's own site, or a community board, or Eventbrite, or a flyer taped in a window. It is out there in six places and findable in none of them.
So we started connecting all the events we can find, which is so far 18 million+ events from 215,000+ places. Events live everywhere. Every venue, gallery, brewery, theater and community space out there is already publishing, and they are working hard to be found. So, what is Daisy?
It's the most complete calendar ever. Every day we add more and more events as we find them in the calendar graph and connect them together. This means you can search by interest, by location, and by the venues and creators you follow. Once you find an event, you can build a Daisy calendar, event playlists that sync to your own calendar. It's like Spotify for events.
Out of curiosity, why don't Google or Facebook do this?
They tried. Google Events, Facebook Events, Eventbrite and a long list of others all took a run at it, and the reason none of them finished the job is simple. Event data is like Lego and Duplo. Same idea, wrong sizes, they won't click together. If you have kids, you have watched this fail in real time.
Why do this now?
Because there has never been more to miss. There are more events every day and this new event economy is projected to grow in big ways. And events seem to be one of the few things everyone still agrees they want to do. A trivia night, a group run, an outdoor market. This is one way to build and sustain community.
This all started from frustration. Wanting to stop missing things. We did not realize how many folks and businesses felt the same way. We believe every event deserves to be found, no matter the size, place or ticket price.
