Lederer and Healy Galleries COMING SOON: A major private collection of American landscapes and seascapes on view at the Academy Art Museum In celebration of the 250th anniversary of America’s independence, the Academy Art Museum proudly announces its feature exhibition, From Sea to Shining Sea: American Landscape Painting, 1850–1950. Containing more than 40 paintings from a major private collection, the exhibition is a visual “road trip” across the rich and varied American landscapes and seascapes, from Maine and the Northeast to Puerto Rico and the West Coasts of California and Oregon. One highlight of the exhibition is Storm in the Rockies (1912), a majestic painting by Allen Tucker, which was first exhibited at the iconic International Exhibition of Modern Art in New York, popularly known as the 1913 Armory Show. The artworks will be organized geographically to allow visitors to compare regional variations, as many of the artists belonged to established artist colonies across the country. A number of these artists were immigrants to America, thus reinforcing this country as the “land of opportunity.” This exhibition was 250 years in the making—don’t miss it! Available at the front desk · Free School Tours: From Sea to Shining Sea Fourth- and fifth-grade school groups and homeschool co-ops are invited to join us for a guided gallery tour of From Sea to Shining Sea followed by a hands-on art-making experience to connect landscape painting with art, geography, history, science, and the environment. Students will practice close looking, ask questions about how landscapes change over time, and make their own creative responses to the places around them. FREE MEMBER EXPERIENCES · Drawing in the Galleries Trade the rush of the day for an hour of looking, drawing, and discovery. Guided by an AAM teaching artist, Members are invited to settle into the galleries with a pencil and explore how artists in From Sea to Shining Sea use line, texture, light, distance, atmosphere, and mark-making to create a sense of place. No drawing experience is necessary—c
