Inner Landscapes: Painting from Memory, Emotion, and the Self Two-Day Workshop: Saturday, September 19th & Sunday September 20th, 11:00AM – 3:00PM Whether you are just beginning or are already deeply engaged in your art practice, learn how to make art that comes from within and expresses who you are. In this immersive workshop, you will learn to let go of “right” or “wrong,” silence the inner critic, and allow the process to unfold naturally as you draw inspiration from your own identity, experiences, memories, passions, and emotions – transforming what moves you into powerful visual expression. Choosing any form of expression from representational to abstract, you will use inks, watercolors, graphite, and acrylic paint, and will experiment with mixed media, textiles, and collage on paper and canvas. Through thoughtfully designed creative prompts and hands-on guidance, the instructor will help you unlock new approaches to mark-making, layering, and storytelling. Over the two energizing and eye-opening days, you will create in a supportive, dynamic environment with time for reflection and group discussion. You will leave with completed artworks on canvas and paper, and – most importantly– with renewed confidence, fresh momentum, and a clearer sense of direction for your future artistic expression – rooted in a voice that is yours alone. Join now > Bio: Elizabeth Casqueiro is a painter and mixed media artist who is drawn to the pieces of our lives — traces, remnants, and overlooked elements — and to the ways we make sense of them through a constant process of mental and physical rearrangement and reinterpretation. Trained as an architect, she is conscious of the symbolism and meanings inherent in architecture and the urban landscape. As an immigrant, she knows that displacement shapes both body and mind, leaving behind traces of absence, rupture, and adaptation. Casqueiro has shown her work in solo and group shows in the United States and Europe, including New York, Washington DC, England, Portugal, and Italy. She is a recipient of multiple art awards from, among others, the London Art Biennale, DC Arts and Humanities, and the Maryland State Arts Council. Casqueiro has degrees in architecture and fine arts, and teaches at Georgetown University, in addition to practicing art in her studios at the Jackson Art Center in Washington DC and Easton, Maryland. Her artwork is in private and corporate collections, including the World Bank Group.
