About this event
One of 11 upcoming events at Wornall Majors House Museums, and 592 across Kansas City.
For one night only, the Alexander Majors House Museum barn transforms into a Halloween speakeasy. Enjoy the atmosphere, sip a signature themed cocktail, and settle in for history talks from Wornall/Majors Museum staff on two favorite Victorian-era topics: mourning and murder. This special evening features two separate sessions, each with its own history talk and themed cocktail. Guests will receive two drink tickets. Those with tickets to both sessions are invited to take the Alexander Majors House Museum audioguided ghost tour in between. Session One: 6:00 p.m. to 7:15 p.m. How to Murder Like a Victorian You may know about Lizzy Borden and H. H. Holmes, but murder in Victorian-era America goes deeper. Join Director of Education Sarah Goebel to learn about some of the period’s less notorious, but no less fascinating, homicides. Session Two: 8:00 p.m. to 9:15 p.m. How to Mourn Like a Victorian Mourning in the nineteenth century was serious business. From mourning fashion to wreaths made of human hair, Victorians surrounded themselves with reminders of grief. Explore the myths and realities of mourning practices with Executive Director Sarah Bader-King and get a close-up look at select mourning artifacts from the Wornall/Majors collection. You can schedule and start your event at the Wornall and Majors houses in our event booking tool. Our flexible scheduling and spacious areas offer many possibilities.
