About this event
One of 459 upcoming events at Alliance for the Arts, and 1,364 across Fort Myers.
Myth is a four-week Waldorf-inspired introduction to mythology for ages 9–11. Through stories drawn from the Greek, Indian, and Norse traditions, students will encounter myth as a way human beings have explored the natural world, suffering, change, wisdom, mortality, and the forces that shape human life. The class moves through the story of Demeter and Persephone, Siddhartha’s encounter with the Four Sights, and the mythology of Odin. Storytelling, discussion, drawing, and Main Lesson Book work will allow students to engage each tradition imaginatively while also beginning to recognize the symbols, patterns, and enduring human concerns that appear across cultures. Rather than treating mythology as a collection of ancient stories to memorize, the class approaches myth as a living form of human meaning-making—one that brings together imagination, observation, art, culture, and some of humanity’s oldest attempts to understand its place in the world.
