Homeschool Enrichment Series: Wise Humans (Ages 9-11)

A Waldorf-Inspired Philosophy II Class Building on the philosophical exploration begun in Philosophy I, Wise Humans takes students further into the strange problems, thought experiments, paradoxes, and ideas philosophers have used to investigate reality, knowledge, reason, and the human experience. Through storytelling, conversation, philosophical puzzles, and Waldorf-inspired Main Lesson Book work, students will encounter problems designed not simply to be solved, but to complicate what initially seems obvious. Students will consider questions of stability and change, the limits of knowledge, consciousness and perception, rational choice, time, meaning, and the peculiar difficulties that arise when apparently reasonable ideas collide. The class emphasizes philosophical exploration rather than arriving at prescribed conclusions. Students will practice following an argument, noticing assumptions, considering competing possibilities, and becoming comfortable with questions that remain genuinely unsettled.
