You already know how to do this. You’ve been making marks your whole life. In the margins of notebooks. On napkins. On the back of envelopes while you were thinking about something else entirely. That impulse — the one that moves the pen before you decide to — is the most honest creative act you have. It’s also the one most people spend their entire lives dismissing. Just Make is a one-day mixed-media workshop that gives that impulse a canvas, some paint, a pair of scissors, and permission. We start fast. Marks get made before the critic wakes up. Paper gets torn. Things get glued in places that don’t make sense yet. Decisions happen at the speed of instinct — which is exactly the right speed for this. Then something shifts. The eye takes over. Composition emerges. You slow down and discover you’ve already made something worth finishing. The pieces were always going to go where they went. You’ll leave with finished work on two surfaces — a canvas and a glass-mounted piece called a Slide — and the unsettling realization that you could have been doing this all along.
