About this event

Arts & Culture

On Display: November 6 – 28 Opening Reception: November 6th, 5:00-7:00 p.m. That’s Absurd. We invite artists everywhere to submit strange, illogical, and offbeat works for an upcoming exhibit celebrating absurd art. This call encourages creators to blur the line between meaning and meaninglessness through surreal imagery, exaggerated forms, playful chaos, and contradictions that challenge viewers’ expectations and understanding of reality. By embracing the bizarre, humorous, and uncomfortable, artists are asked to share unconventional perspectives that discuss how the most honest reflections of our world can often make the least sense. Entry Fee: $20 for one entry, $5 for each additional entry (up to 3) On Display: November 6 -28, 2026 @ Main Gallery Click here to submit by October 4th by 11:59 PM Call Details: That’s Absurd – Call Prospectus   _____________________________________________________________ Foulds Theater Gallery Night Swim by Zan Lombardo “For viewers who want to enjoy this art installation on a surface level, imagine standing on a dock at night, looking down at fish swimming up to underwater lights. For viewers who want to dive deeper into understanding the source of this imagery, know that my daily awareness swings widely between the wild beauty of our world and sadness about the way we treat it. My original plan for this installation was to create a winding labyrinth of continuous scrolls filled with beauty and despair that alternated at every turn. However, I soon discovered that I did not have the wherewithal to focus on, much less paint, despair. I have spent my adult life aligned with spiritual communities that gather together to receive the light, then go into the world, greeting everyone with that light. I will continue to behave artistically in this way. Greetings to you all as you walk these light-filled paths. Move forward. Turn right and left. Look front and back. Be fascinated by the seeming chaos and know that it is blessed. Join in the movement toward the light. Come in to remember that you are the place where creation is working itself out, and as Jim Koopman said, have confidence in the river that runs clean beneath life’s storms. The winding labyrinth was reimagined into forward paths leading viewers to physical and aesthetic sustenance at the bar and theater. The continuous scrolls have been divided into enough sections for everyone who wants to be encouraged about the wild beauty of our world and reminded to treat it as such.”   _____________________________________________________________
