About this event
One of 4 upcoming events at American Composers Forum, and 6,815 across the Twin Cities.
As WHITEBOYSUMMER, the duo of drummer Arthur “L.A.” Buckner and guitarist Thomas Abban explore the entire spectrum of the African diaspora with reckless abandon. Their influences range from the soul-stirring melodies of Nina Simone and Howlin’ Wolf to the innovative productions of Ye West and Lee Scratch Perry. Their Recomposing America project, presented in partnership with The Cedar Cultural Center, is part social experiment, part American popular music masterclass, featuring drums, guitar, piano, sampling, DJing, singing, and rapping. WHITEBOYSUMMER fears no genre, no convention, and no judgment. Tickets & more information → Recomposing America is a multi-year initiative led by American Composers Forum that highlights artistic perspectives unique to the United States and the broader Americas through direct commissions, institutional collaborations, and public dialogue. Timed with the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence, Recomposing America aims to refresh and reimagine the “who,” “what,” and “why” of the United States, and the stories therein.
