This class runs three Tuesdays, April 14-28, from 9 am-12 pm each session. Get started with flat plane figure carving in this three-week class. Carver Jock Holmes will get students started with basic knife safety and techniques for shaping a figure’s body and face. Students may be interested in continuing with the intermediate class immediately following, which will focus on finishing the faces and adding details. This class will offer a supportive environment focused on the basics. Additional information: Please note that this class focuses solely on carving techniques; painting will not be covered. Advanced registration required. Physical ability: Wood carving requires good hand strength and dexterity, such as being able to open a pickle jar. This class is open to beginners or students with previous carving experience who would like a refresher on basic carving techniques. Suitable for ages 18+. A $5 materials fee is due in class to the instructor. If you have one, bring your own carving knife (a Flexcut #13 or similar) and carving glove to the first class. There will also be a limited number to lend, or students may be interested in purchasing a knife; options will be discussed in first class.
