Tuesday through Saturday, 10:00AM-5:00PM (August 18-22). Part of the Plein Air Art Festival. Learn the basics of strong landscape painting through a process of building, destroying, and recombining with dynamic results. This innovative workshop will be team taught by Liam Murphy-Torres and Francie Cook, both recent MFA graduates of the New York Studio School Morning sessions run 10am-1pm and afternoon sessions run 2pm-5pm. Mornings will feature drawing from observation and from memory. It will be a rigorous introduction to drawing from perception and to visual art-making generally. Students will be introduced to a wide variety of strategies for looking and for translating what they see into a developing graphic vocabulary. Through sustained practice working from life, students will develop new ways of seeing and understanding the visual world, and will be given new frameworks for translating that experience into drawings and paintings. Afternoons will be spent using collage and other disruptive techniques to reimagine and recombine the images from the morning session. Paintings and drawings will evolve as the week progresses in a deeply iterative process that will contain many exciting discoveries for the participants. This workshop is fantastic for beginners and those looking for a way to break old patterns and create a new body of work. Please bring your sketching materials, charcoal and drawing paper, as well as a few blank canvases and your acrylic paints as well as any collage material you wish to bring. See a detailed materials list below the artist bio. There will be a lunch break from 1:00pm-2:00pm. You can bring your own lunch or check out one of the local restaurants in Yarmouth. $750 workshop fee* does not include materials. *ACT NOW for the EARLY BIRD DISCOUNT of $150 OFF to attend for $600.
