Keeping you up to date on the progress of our Archival Storage remodel! 3/6/26: We have met our funding goal thanks to the incredible generosity of our patrons and friends. Thank you so much! 2/4/26: Since the deinstallation and removal of the previous storage system, we have been busy giving the Archive a thorough cleaning! Everything has been dusted – including the hvac ducting – washed, swept, mopped, scrubbed, etc. We’ve also scraped and re-painted the cinder block walls and much of the inside utility wall. Additionally, we’ve had high-efficiency led lights installed to replace the previous metal-halide bulbs (which are being responsibly recycled). These new lights are zoned to be even more efficient, and to protect the collection by not exposing the work to un-needed light. We are primed and ready for installation to begin! 2/7/26: Delivery Day! The first delivery of materials arrived this morning! After unpacking, the installers got right to work laying out the structure for the high-density mobile shelving. 2/9 – 2/10/26 Installation of the high-density mobile shelving continues! Monday, the 9th, the tracks and floor base were installed. Tuesday, the 10th, the shelves are getting assembled and installed. 2/12/26 After the installation of the floor base, tracks, and geared shelf bases, the actual structures of the high-density mobile shelving has been coming together pretty quickly. It’s very exciting to check in and see the progress! 2/18/26 This week has been about the rail-mounted Penda Racks. First was the I-beam framework, then the individual rails were attached to that, and now today you can see some of the wire-frame racks being installed. Last will be floor mounted roller guides to keep the racks from moving laterally when we roll them out. 2/24/26 We had the team from Delta Designs Limited / Bruynzeel Storage Group in today for a quality control site visit. Some of the equipment we are receiving are leading edge designs, and we appreciate the hands-on approach and extra oversight to ensure everything is going smoothly. As you can see, all of the Penda Racks have been installed on the framework, and the floor guides have been installed. Fixed racks have been installed on the back wall, and currently – literally as I type this – more are being installed on the fixed section of the high-density mobile storage racks. We’re going to be able to hang so much art! 3/2/26 Today is a momentous day! <sound of trumpet fanfare> Today we placed the first items in our new Storage system! Henceforth this day shall be remembered as The Day of the Placing of The Giant Bubblewrap Roll! Hip Hip Hooray!
