Rising Stars Concert is a collaboration between the Asheville Chamber Music Series and the Asheville Art Museum, featuring North Carolina musicians embarking on a major concert career. The event is sponsored and made possible by Heidi DuBose. Violinist: Anant Malpani Pianist: Christopher Tavernier Purchase Tickets Repertoire: Caprice for solo violin—Augusta Read Thomas (2005) Sonata for Violin and Piano—Francis Poulenc (1943/ rev. 1949) Summerland from Three Visions—William Grant Still (1935) Sonata in A Major for Violin and Piano—César Franck (1886) About the Rising Star: Violinist Anant Malpani currently studies at the Royal College of Music with Ani Schnarch. Anant recently graduated from the University of North Carolina (UNC) at Chapel Hill with a degree in Economics and Music, where his studies were generously supported by the Kenan Music Scholarship. At Carolina, Anant served as Concertmaster of the UNC Symphony, and was a recipient of the David Arons Prize, Benjamin Swalin Award, and Phi Beta Kappa honors. He has been invited to perform at festivals around the world, including the Aspen, Bowdoin, Domaine Forget de Charlevoix, and Decoda Music Festivals, and at Creative Dialogue France. An avid chamber musician, Anant has performed alongside Johnny Gandelsman, John Paul Jones, Anssi Karttunen, and David Alberman. In 2025, he received first prize in the Charleston International Music Competitio, and was selected as prize winner and soloist in the UNC Symphony Concerto Competition. His previous teachers include Nicholas DiEugenio, William Fedkenheuer, and Cornelia Heard. In his free time, Anant enjoys spending time with friends, family, and his dogs Dobby and Winston. The Steinway piano is available to the Asheville Art Museum through the courtesy of the Asheville Chamber Music Series.
