Arts & Culture

REGISTER HERE Blending creativity with cultural heritage, students will explore the artistic traditions of Appalachian culture through a series of hands-on crafts. They will begin the week creating vibrant painted barn quilts and learning basic weaving techniques with natural materials. They’ll spend the remainder of the week further developing their weaving skills to make reed baskets and needle felting a landscape.   Meet the Instructor: Kati Robbins Kati Robbins has over 12 years of experience as an art educator, teaching studio arts and crafts to a wide range of age groups in different learning environments. She is currently based in Asheville where she works as a high school art teacher. Her creative work focuses on mixed media and assemblage, with a strong interest in collaborative and community based projects. She is inspired by Appalachian craft traditions, natural materials and the surrounding landscape. When Kati isn’t teaching or making art, she enjoys gardening, cooking, reading and hiking in the mountains.
