2026 Grrls Create Stand Up Comedy Camp

Athena Project is excited to offer our Grrls Stand-Up Comedy Camp! Taught by the incredible Janae Burris, it is taking place August 10th-14th, 2026 at Comedy Works South. Grrls Stand-Up teaches the basics of putting together a 5 minute comedy set and introduces the campers to professional comedians from our community who provide support, encouragement, and feedback. In a nurturing, safe environment, the campers are encouraged to find their own unique voices through storytelling. They will be inspired through improv, mask-making, dream boards and more. At the end of the week, each camper will perform their own comedy set to friends and family! Open to girls and nonbinary youth 6th-10th Grade Dates: August 10-14, 2026 Time: 9:00 AM–3:00 PM Ages: 11-16 Location: Comedy Works South, 5345 Landmark Pl, Greenwood Village, CO 80111 Cost: $350 Meet the Teaching Artist Janae Burris Janae Burris (Just For Laughs/NBC First Look) is a Colorado based comedian who tours nationally with Moms Unhinged, Josh Blue (America’s Got Talent) and has opened for nationally touring comics Beth Stelling, Gary Goldman and Mike Birbiglia to name a few. Janae has been featured at Portland’s Bridgetown Comedy Festival, Limestone Comedy Festival in Bloomington IN, Big Pine Flagstaff, Telluride Blues Fest, and High Plains Comedy Festival in Denver as well as headlining at Ha Ha Harvest in Portland, Aspen Laugh Fest and JokeChella in Fort Collins. Janae is a 2019 Montreal Just For Laughs New Face. She is the host of Film On The Rocks at Red Rocks Amphitheater and coordinates talent for the Comedy Works New Talent Program. As a mother Janae is one of the few women in stand up to record a special while pregnant (Long Overdue), which you can find streaming, somewhere, once she’s done editing it (probably sometime after her kid has graduated high school).
