About this event
One of 17 upcoming events at The Athenaeum, and 359 across Indianapolis.
Ballet INitiative’s Nutcracker with a Twist brings Sugar and Spice to a holiday favorite! Experience the classic story of Clara and her Nutcracker doll with a fresh 1920s twist. At a Christmas party in 1920, Clara receives a nutcracker doll and dreams that she comes to life and whisks her away to the magical Land of Sweets. But this is no ordinary Nutcracker! Set to both Tchaikovsky’s original score and Duke Ellington’s jazzy interpretation, this production blends traditional ballet with jazz, tap, and much more. Watch jazzy Mice, whirling Snowflakes, tapping Candies, and the Sugar Plum Fairy share the stage with Charlestons, flappers, and plenty of Jazz Age flair. Join Ballet INitiative December 11–13 at The Athenaeum for a fun, fresh, and family-friendly twist on a beloved holiday tradition! Buy Tickets
