A brilliant concerto for piano four-hands and a brooding late romantic symphony are the featured works in the Vermont Philharmonic’s fall program. Led by Music Director Lou Kosma, who has been the orchestra’s beloved principal conductor since May, 1999. Finnish composer Jean Sibelius completed his first symphony in 1900. Haunting melodies, colorful orchestration, and powerful rhythms give the Philharmonic’s different sections -- strings, brass, woodwinds and percussion -- full expression of its rich orchestral sound. If you’ve taken piano lessons for more than a couple of years, you have probably met Carl Czerny, whose exercises are central to many courses of study. His concerto for piano four-hands (two pianists, one piano) was first performed in 1829. Honored Vermont pianists Sylvia Parker and her favorite student, Alison Bruce Cerutti, will share the keyboard in what promises to be a spectacular performance. The Vermont Philharmonic is celebrating its sixty-eighth year of making beautiful music in central Vermont. You can find more information about the Orchestra at www.vermontphilharmonic.com. The concert is sponsored by Union Bank, Vermont and New Hampshire.
