Featured Speaker: Dr. William Skiles, Associate Professor of History and Faculty-Minister at Regent University Lecture Title: “The Confessing Church and the Pulpit: Lessons for the Church Today” The School of Arts and Humanities at Barton College welcomes Dr. William Skiles for a lecture titled “The Confessing Church and the Pulpit: Lessons for the Church Today” as part of the Thedford G. and Woodrow W. Sprinkle Lectureship. Established in 1980 through a gift from Stephen V. Sprinkle, a 1974 graduate of Barton College and alumnus of Yale Divinity School and Duke University, the Thedford G. and Woodrow W. Sprinkle Lectureship explores the relationship between theology and preaching. The lectureship was created in memory of Sprinkle’s father and uncle. Drawing on historical and theological perspectives, Dr. Skiles will examine the legacy of the Confessing Church and its response to political and religious challenges, considering what lessons its witness may offer to churches and faith communities today. The lecture invites reflection on the responsibilities of religious leadership, the role of preaching in public life, and the enduring relationship between faith and moral courage. The event is free and open to the public and will be held in Hardy Alumni Hall.
