The Galleries at the Liriodendron Mansion Opening July 12: Marriage: A Retrospective Featuring works by Cindy Mehr Marriage: A Retrospective features works by artist Cindy Mehr done over the past 15 years on the topic of marriage – not only as a social institution, but as a broader act of union – the merging of distinct cultures, genders, and races, but also the blending of disparate elements into something simultaneously cohesive, yet unstable. Through collage-like compositions and contrasting visual language, the artist explores what happens when diversity collides and harmony emerges. The exhibition reflects on the beauty and complexity of coexistence between individuals, cultures, ideas, and visual forms, recognizing that relationships are not fixed states, but living systems, shaped through continual adaptation and exchange. The exhibit opens on Sunday, July 12 from 11 am to 3 pm, and will be on view each Wednesday from 1 to 6 pm through September 2, as well as on Sunday, August 9 from 11 am to 3 pm. Appointments may also be made for private tours and viewing by calling 410-879-4424 or emailing [email protected] Please note that, due to the historic nature of the Liriodendron, the 2nd floor galleries require climbing stairs. About the Artist Cindy Mehr has lived on four continents—North America, Africa, Europe, and Asia—and drawn on this international exposure to inspire her creativity. She holds a BFA degree in painting from VCU and a Masters in English from Millersville University (PA), where she explored the connections between art and literature. She has had numerous solo exhibits in the mid-Atlantic region, earned residencies at the Torpedo Factory in Alexandria, grants from the Maryland State Art Council, and numerous jurors’ awards at the Maryland Federation of Art, The York Art Association, and the Lancaster Museum of Art. She has twice exhibited at the University of Maryland biennial (BMRE), the Delaplaine Arts Center Nationally Juried show, and the International Biennial in Servian, France. Other overseas exposure includes venues in Spain, Japan, and Morocco. She regularly exhibits in the South of France as a member of several art organizations to which she belongs. She speaks French and Spanish fluently.
