NO COVER 4:30pm Show Join acclaimed saxophonist Francesco Cafiso and pianist Joe Block for an exciting jazz performance. Their program will feature Cafiso’s original compositions alongside jazz standards, brought to life through expressive improvisation and a rich musical dialogue. ✧ Sicilian phenom Francesco Cafiso is a saxophonist, artistic director, and record label founder with several degrees from prestigious music schools and knighthood from the president of Italy himself. He has performed with a dizzying array of the biggest names in jazz, including Hank Jones, Dave Brubeck, Wynton Marsalis, Cedar Walton, Mulgrew Miller, Jimmy Cobb, Ben Riley, Ray Drummond, Lewis Nash, Joe Lovano, Christian McBride, George Mraz, Kenny Wheeler, Gonzalo Rubalcaba, Enrico Rava, and Stefano Bollani. He has also won many important prizes, including the Massimo Urbani National Award in Urbisaglia, the EuroJazz Award in Lecco, the International Jazz Festivals Organization Award in New York, the World Saxophone Competition in London, and the Django d’Or in Rome. ✧ Joe Block is one of the premier pianists, composers, and bandleaders working today. Born and raised in Philadelphia, Block now resides in New York City and has played with musicians including Wynton Marsalis, Kurt Rosenwinkel, and Leslie Odom Jr. at venues including Carnegie Hall, the Apollo Theater, and the Village Vanguard. Hailed by Jazz at Lincoln Center as one of "jazz's most promising young composers," Block is a graduate of the Columbia-Juilliard dual-degree program (BA '21 and MM ‘22) and is a Steinway Artist.
