About this event

Outdoors Workshops

In this solstice-themed poetry session, we will build our word banks by exploring the world bank of Bernheim, seeking out objects to serve as images in our poems, and building word shrines to honor nature—a poetic foraging practice and an exercise in slow composition. We’ll experiment with contrast and balance, light and dark, halves and wholes. All levels of experience welcome. This 2.5-hour workshop allows time for walking, writing, reading, and discussing some published poems, and sharing what participants write. About the Instructor Kristi Maxwell is the author of nine books of poems, including Wide Ass of Night (Saturnalia Books, 2025), Goners (Green Linden Press, 2023), winner of the Wishing Jewel Prize; Realm Sixty-four (Ahsahta Press, 2008), editor’s choice for the Sawtooth Poetry Prize and finalist for the National Poetry Series; and Hush Sessions (Saturnalia, 2009), editor’s choice for the Saturnalia Books Poetry Prize. She’s the Director of Creative Writing and a full-time Professor of English at the University of Louisville. Bernheim members $45; Non-members $55 Registration required by 4 p.m. the day prior to the program. No pets, please. Call (502) 215-7155 or click the button below to register. Register
