Join writer and storyteller Kona Morris (The Moth, PBS’s Stories From The Stage, RISK!) for a special 2-day workshop that will guide you through the process of composing and structuring your stories for any audience. From job interviews to wedding speeches, it is important to feel confident to share your stories because YOUR STORY MATTERS. Learn how to craft your own life experiences into a polished, first-person narrative that you can share with family, friends, and at storytelling events. Open to all experience levels! Workshop registration includes the opportunity to perform at our Storyteller Sharing on September 17 at 7PM (Student Arrival Time TBD), invite your family and friends! “Great stories happen to those who tell them.” – Ira Glass About The Curriculum In the first class, we will dive into the art of storytelling with several unique “story mining” exercises that are designed to help you remember the details of the most exciting and important stories in your life, so you will have a long list of stories to work with. We will also cover effective storytelling structures, such as the format for the most successful stories on The Moth Radio Hour, which are designed for optimal audience engagement. We will look at examples of different story structures and how to apply them to your own stories. We will also discuss the importance of a strong ending, and how to tailor it for your specific audience and purpose. For the second class, you will bring a draft of one of your developing stories, and we will dive into techniques for how to tell it to an audience. We will cover tips for overcoming stage fright, and how to make your story as engaging as possible. You will get practice telling your story and be provided with constructive feedback for how to make it more impactful. At the Storytelling Showcase, you will have the opportunity to tell your own story in front of an audience! She has won The Moth StorySLAM in New York City, Boston, and Los Angeles, and she came in first place for the Ojai Storytelling Festival Story Slam, which was judged by Featured Tellers from the International Storytelling Festival. Kona has performed on national television shows and podcasts, including Stories From The Stage (PBS), the RISK! podcast, and AITApod. She starred in Denver’s Live Drunk History Comedy Troupe, where she was Editor-in-Chief of Fast Forward Press and spent 14 years teaching literature, mythology, and creative writing courses to college students. Kona’s stories, articles, and prose poems have appeared in a variety of publications, and she has been featured at literary readings, writing conferences, storytelling events, and comedy shows around the world.
