Andrei Rabodzeenko’s “Chicago South-Side World” Opens October 17 at the Beverly Arts Center New oil paintings capture the flavor and texture of Chicago’s South Side CHICAGO, IL — The Beverly Arts Center will present Chicago South-Side World, a solo exhibition of new oil paintings by artist Andrei Rabodzeenko, opening October 17. The exhibition features depictions of South Side Chicago painted over the past 10 years: cars, street signs, homes, derelict buildings, trees. Rabodzeenko, who lives on the South Side, painted the neighborhoods he calls home. The resulting paintings offer an unvarnished look at a part of the city rarely the subject of fine art — places where residential and industrial life exist side by side, and where working people make their homes as comfortable and cared for as they can. It’s apparent from diving into his paintings that this is a real world, where real people live. It has its external flavor, but it also has depth: the accumulation of lives, work, necessity, care, time, accident, and memory.
