A year earlier he had played guitar behind Pinetop Perkins at the Majestic Theatre in Dallas, on a bill with Robert Lockwood Jr., Honeyboy Edwards and Henry Townsend, for a live album that took the 2008 Grammy for Best Traditional Blues Album. His own debut, Tengo Blues, which he produced with Anson Funderburgh for VizzTone in 2015, won the 2017 Blues Music Award for Best Emerging Artist Album.
