Born in Pasadena to two working musicians, Big D picked up bass at ten, switched to guitar, and spent his teens busking on California sidewalks until the songs came out right. He fronted the blues rock trio Porcelain Hill before building The Vibe, a power trio with Jit Chatterjee on drums and Elliot Lawrence on bass that can swing from gospel testimony to Sly and the Family Stone funk inside a single song.
