He grew up in Martinez, placed in the top ten of the International House of Blues Foundation competition in 2012, and opened for Buckcherry at the Whisky a Go Go fiftieth anniversary show with his band Brave Ulysses. He studied jazz at the California Jazz Conservatory in Berkeley and guitar performance at the Los Angeles College of Music, then folded Indian classical sitar into a sound already built on Clapton tone, Rory Gallagher grit, and Derek Trucks slide.
