9/12—ALTERED BOOKMAKING/FULL 8-Week Series—Beginning 9/12 (see all dates below) $350.00 DATES: Saturdays, 9/12, 9/19, 9/26, 10/3, break, 10/17, 10/24, 10/31, 11/7 SIGN UP OPTION: Each workshop is also being offered individually—sign up to come as you are able if you can’t make full series TIME: 1:00 PM - 3:30 PM FACILITATOR: Jesse White COST: $350 includes most supplies(save by signing up for the full series) Unearth hidden stories and unleash your creativity, exploring old texts through a new lens in this immersive, multi-session workshop series. We will be guided through the process of taking a discarded hardcover book and transforming it into a one-of-a-kind, mixed-media masterpiece. Part collage, part book art, this series explores how to manipulate existing pages to create a personal journal, a visual memoir, or a sculptural art object. Series Overview: Session I: Every Act of Creation Begins with Destruction. —Pablo Picasso Learn how to plan the spacing of your altered book, tear pages, glue pages, and prepare your book with structural integrity. Session II: An inspiring pop-up book with gorgeous 3D images… The encouraging text reminds readers to strive, to dream, and to believe that all things are possible. —Goodreads review of ‘Believe’ by Robert Sabuda Construct architecture and special features in your book. Choose pop-ups you’d like to include in your book. Session III: A secret home is like rocks under tide. —Proverb from Psychology Today Create secret and sacred spaces in your book, through the creation of a drawer or other covert techniques. Session IV: A book cover is a distillation. It is a haiku of the story. —Chip Kidd Add a decorative cover to your book, with fabric or decorative papers. Session V: Poetry is just the evidence of life. If your life is burning well, poetry is just the ash. —Leonard Cohen Found poetry and intuitive painting are exciting ways to use the former content of your altered book. Session VI: I don’t create for the result, but for the feelings I feel during the process. —Unknown Learn tips and tricks in the work of collage. Session VII: Art enables you to not only forget yourself but rediscover yourself in the process. —Anonymous Altered bookmaking work session. This class is perfect for artists, journalers, book lovers, and anyone looking to experiment with mixed-media in a new way.
