Program: Einstein's "Beloved Piano-Witch" Harriet Cohen British pianist Harriet Cohen (1895 – 1967) had one of the most celebrated careers of her era, championing composers who were then considered daring and modern. Albert Einstein called her "The Beloved Piano-Witch." In this narrative recital, Roberta Rust traces Cohen's illustrious life through informed commentary and live performance, drawing on music by the composers Cohen most fervently supported: J.S. Bach, Arnold Bax, Chopin, de Falla, and Bartók. About the Performer Roberta Rust has performed to critical acclaim at venues including Carnegie Hall's Weill Recital Hall, Merkin Concert Hall, Rio de Janeiro's Sala Cecilia Meireles, Washington's Corcoran Gallery, Havana's Basilica, and Seoul's KNUA Hall. She has appeared as soloist with the Houston Symphony, New World Symphony, Philippine Philharmonic, Symphony of the Americas, and many others, and has collaborated with the Lark, Ying, Serafin, Amernet, and Fine Arts String Quartets. Festival credits include Miami's Mainly Mozart Festival, the Palm Beach Chamber Music Festival, Festival Miami, and France's La Gesse. Her recordings on the Navona, Centaur, and Protone labels have drawn wide praise. Rust has served as Artistic Ambassador for the United States and received major recognition from the National Endowment for the Arts, the Organization of American States, the National Society of Arts & Letters, and the International Concours de Fortepiano in Paris. She is currently Artist Faculty-Piano, Professor, and head of the piano department at the Lynn University Conservatory of Music in Boca Raton.
