3-Day Oil-Studio Workshop with Chris Groves / “In-Between Realism and Abstraction in Landscape – Using Oil, Various Mediums, & Mixed Media” Wednesday, September 9 – Friday, September 11, 2026 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM This workshop will cover two main topics: Pushing one’s landscape artwork with a variety of mediums and tools as a way of loosening up, as well as a heavy discussion on changing design and composition to push outside the obvious. Experimenting with Cold Wax Medium and Galkyd as an addition to oil paint will be covered as a way to add texture, layering and mark making. Using all the basics of landscape painting as a foundation will be heavily discussed. Adding a variety of tools and Mediums in order to achieve beyond the basics while allowing exploring new directions in their own artwork. Please bring your own photos to use as reference.
