Boston Conservatory at Berklee and Boston Lyric Opera are thrilled to welcome BLO Music Director and Conductor David Angus to lead a masterclass with local students and rising artists from Boston Conservatory at Berklee, New England Conservatory, Boston University, Longy School of Music, Boston Singers’ Resource, and Boston Lyric Opera’s Jane & Steven Akin Emerging Artists as part of the Opera Innovators Series. Now in his seventeenth year as Boston Lyric Opera’s music director, Anglo-Danish conductor David Angus most recently led the BLO Orchestra in new productions of Song of the Earth and Macbeth. Highlights of his BLO career include Der Fliegende Holländer, Werther, Bieto’s production of Carmen in Boston’s Opera House, The Handmaid’s Tale at Harvard’s Lavietes Pavilion, The Lighthouse at the JFK Presidential Library, critically acclaimed online productions of desert in and The Fall of the House of Usher, BLO’s backwards La bohème, and Anne Bogart’s striking production of Bluebeard’s Castle | Four Songs. Previously, Angus was music director of The Glimmerglass Festival and Chief Conductor of the Symphony Orchestra of Flanders. He has led orchestras and choirs throughout Europe, particularly in Italy and Scandinavia. He has conducted most of the major orchestras and choirs in Great Britain, including the London Philharmonic, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, the Hallé Orchestra, most of the BBC orchestras and choirs, the London Mozart Players, and the Scottish Chamber Orchestra. He has also conducted the Toscanini Orchestra in Parma, the Porto Symphony Orchestra in Portugal, Wexford Festival Opera, the Hong Kong Philharmonic, and the Huddersfield Choral Society, as well as his former orchestra in Belgium. Angus was a boy chorister at King’s College, Cambridge, under Sir David Willcocks and read music at Surrey University. He was a conducting Fellow at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester, where he won several prizes for opera conducting. David Angus conducted William Tell to open the 2026/27 season and will be conducting The Marriage of Figaro and Boston’s Community Opera during the 2026/27 season David Angus is presented as part of Boston Conservatory at Berklee’s Opera Innovators Series in partnership with Boston Lyric Opera.
