BPL Reads 6PM ~ The Bear and the Nightingale

The Bear and the Nightingale by Katherine Arden. Part folklore, part grim fairytale, this novel is set in 14th century medieval Russia. To save her family from a malevolent force lurking in the woods, Vasilisa must defy the rigid, patriarchal laws of her society which demand she submit to an arranged marriage, or the silence of a convent. Forced to choose between exile and submission, she must embrace her forbidden magic and survive the winter night.
