About this event
One of 6 upcoming events at The Bronx Museum, and 7,031 across New York City.
Saturday, October 24, 2026 • 1:00 – 4:00 PM At Joyce Kilmer Park & At The Bronx Museum For All Ages • Free! • Optional RSVP Bronx Museum Educators will be leading fun art-making activities as part of two larger events on Saturday, October 24, from 1:00 – 4:00 PM! The Bronx Museum has partnered with Legal Aid Society to present a Community Joy & Justice Day at the Museum! As part of the festivities, Bronx Museum Educators will lead free art-making activities for all ages, accessible to young children and their caregivers. Specifically, the art-making activity will invite participants to create monotype prints that explore aspects of their identities. The project is inspired by the Beyond the Margins exhibition currently on view at the Museum. Collaboratively curated by New York City high school students who completed the Museum’s Teen Summer paid internship program, the exhibition explores artworks from our permanent collection that defy material and/or societal conventions. In addition to the printmaking activity, there will also be a Storytime at the Museum at 1:30 PM for young children and their caregivers to enjoy. And as part of the Community Joy & Justice Day, Brooklyn Book Bodega will be at the Museum giving away free children’s books to anyone who’d like them between 1:00 and 4:00 PM. Bronx Museum Educators are popping up at Joyce Kilmer Park—located one block south of the Museum on Grand Concourse—with free art-making activities for all ages as part of the 5th Annual Halloween Fun in the 161 event organized by Friends of 4 Parks and 161st Street Business Improvement District! Taking advantage of the fall season and outdoor location, The Bronx Museum Educator-led art activity will incorporate fallen leaves at the park to create “rubbings”—a technique that captures the unique texture of an object on paper. Also at Joyce Kilmer Park, The Bronx Museum has partnered with Storefront for Art and Architecture to present the central installation of artist Alex Strada’s project Public Address in The Bronx. The project platforms the log entries of people living and working in New York City shelters on official signage produced by the Department of Transportation. Alex Strada will also be participating in an Artist Talk at the Museum this same afternoon—Saturday, October 24—at 3:30 PM as part of our Community Joy & Justice Day event in partnership with the Legal Aid Society.
