Pick Your Knitting: Continental for English Knitters taught by Evelyn Morgan You throw. You wrap. You have knit this way for years, and your stitches look great. So why switch? Continental knitting moves the yarn to your left hand. You pick each stitch instead of wrapping the yarn around the needle. Many knitters find this style uses less hand motion. Others want a second technique for two-handed colorwork. Some are curious. All three are good reasons. This class gives you the techniques. Hour one, you learn the knit stitch Continental style. Hour two, you learn the purl. You hold the yarn a new way and build the muscle memory to take home. You put it to work on the Pedestrian Crossing Cowl by Melissa Sibley Designs, a free pattern with a chevron design and button closure. Fair warning: your hands have years of practice in English style. The first rows feel clumsy. Then they don’t. This class is for knitters who already knit English style. Must be able to knit, purl, yarn over, knit two together, and slip slip knit. This pattern calls for 210 yards of worsted weight yarn in 1 color. We suggest Malabrigo Rios, or a hand dyed DK or worsted weight yarn. US 8 (5.0mm) needles. Buttons for the closure. Pattern: Pattern is available free on Ravelry. 18 stitches x 22 rows per 4” on US 8. Please download the pattern and wind your yarn before the start of class.
