Hidden in Plain Sight: The Story of Odessa Madre Who gets remembered—and whose stories disappear? Join Emmy Award-winning journalist and filmmaker Robin Hamilton for a special screening of 'Odessa's Reign', the remarkable story of a bold, queer Black woman who defied convention, became a powerful numbers runner, and was one of the wealthiest women in 1950s Washington, DC. Following the 22-minute documentary, Hamilton will lead a lively community conversation with historians and writers exploring Odessa’s world, Black and LGBTQ history in Washington, and the people and places too often left out of our collective memory. Presented during LGBTQ History Month, the evening asks us to consider the stories we tell, the histories we risk losing, and the power of being remembered.
