Participate in the traditional harvest and preparation of Black Ash trees for basketmaking. We’ll harvest trees on Tuesday morning and then return to the Museum where April Ogimaakwe Stone, member of the Bad River Band of Lake Superior Chippewa, will guide volunteers in the process of pounding the ash to release basket splints on Tuesday afternoon, Wednesday (9 a.m. to 3 p.m.), and Thursday (9 a.m. to 3 p.m.) Our goal is to prepare a store of basket-making supplies before the Emerald Ash Borer ruins the trees. View volunteer opportunities and sign up here. We really appreciate RSVPs so we can really get some work done, but if even you didn’t sign up, please feel free to stop by for as much or as little time as you have in your day!
