Our Open Houses serve as a platform for our partners to share valuable resources with our community through informative presentations, workshops, and exhibits that aim to engage and inspire students and community members of all ages. An opportunity to foster a stronger community, exchange ideas, and work towards a blue economy that leads economic growth while combating climate change and preserving the wellbeing of our oceans. As the maritime industry works toward a more sustainable future, hydrogen is emerging as a key solution for reducing emissions, advancing renewable energy, and transforming port operations. Hear from industry leaders as they discuss the growing role of hydrogen in the clean energy transition and the future of marine renewable energy. June 27 – Spotlighting cutting-edge ocean technology, workforce development, and sustainable innovation. This engaging open house featured industry leaders and innovators discussing how the blue economy is creating new opportunities for California communities, businesses, and future careers. Guests heard from Michael Arens, Founder & CEO of Clean Earth Rovers, on how emerging water quality technologies are helping coastal communities address environmental challenges. Carolyn M. Hull, AltaSea’s Interim Director of Economic and Workforce Development, also shared insights on how blue economy growth is driving job creation, workforce strategy, and economic development across California. May 16 – Two thought leaders and two engaging discussions. The event highlighted the exciting reopening of the Cabrillo Marine Aquarium following its major renovation, sharing updates on the aquarium’s renewed role in marine education and community engagement. Guests also heard from Hampus Idsater of Suntex Marinas, who explored the evolving future of marina development, recreational boating, and coastal access in California. April 18 – Lessons learned and recent discoveries from the deep parts of the planet. The program begins with a keynote presentation by Megan Cook, Director of Outreach and Media at Ocean Exploration Trust. In her talk, “Ocean Exploration for Everyone,” Megan will share lessons learned and recent discoveries from some of the deepest, most mysterious parts of our planet. With experience spanning from tropical reefs to Antarctica’s icy seafloor, Megan brings a unique perspective on exploration, conservation, and the power of discovery. March 14 – Learn about New Models for Emergency Power Bradley Bartz’ tells the true story of how distributed solar and battery systems were used to restore power during the Palos Verdes landslide—and how that emergency response directly led to mobile power systems now operating at AltaSea and a new vision for floating energy in Los Angeles Harbor. Oct 18 – Learn about Artificial Intelligence and how it is impacting innovators in the Blue Economy An introductory session defining the blue economy and artificial intelligence—plus examples of where they intersect.
