Great Music: Such Glorious Gifts

The program begins with the Suite for Oboe and String Orchestra by Robin Milford, with Anna Mattix as oboe soloist. Tyler Huk, tenor, is the soloist in Gerald Finzi's Died Natalia, a cantata for tenor and string orchestra. Anna Mattix then plays Gabriel's Oboe, from the film The Mission. The choir, accompanied by strings and piano, sings Roland Martin's The Voice of the Rain, based on a poem of Walt Whitman. To conclude the program, there is a group of pieces commemorating Veteran's Day: In Flanders Fields by Martin (chorus and strings), Berceuse Heroïque for orchestra by Claude Debussy, and A Just and Lasting Peace, also by Martin, for chorus, strings and trumpet.
