Fused Glass: Youth Fused Glass Summer Camp Instructor: Katie Trent Date: Saturday, July 27, 2026 at 1:00 PM – 3:00 PM Beginner, Ages 10 year-16 year Description 5-Day Summer Camp with Katie Trent Immersive glass fusing camp for kids 10-16 years old. Learn all about fusing glass, the techniques and equipment needed along the way and create a new piece of art each day. Students will start with an easier project making 4 fused heart pendants. Over the course of the week, they’ll create a colorful garden stake from pre-cut elements and grow their skills by cutting and shaping glass to make a small dish. The last two sessions will explore the nature of glass and how it reacts to changes in volume or air trapped between two pieces of glass making a piece with an optical illusion and a dish with an array of bubbles in a pattern. This camp will be held at Katie’s studio in Mt. Vernon, WA. Instructor Katie Trent I have been playing around with glass for more than 25 years. What started as a hobby ignited by a community education class has turned into an on-going artistic exploration of this amazing medium. Glass is such an interesting art form and I love all the aspects I have explored. I really enjoy making custom stained-glass windows for people and have created dozens of commissioned pieces. I have a love- hate relationship with mosaics but gain great satisfaction in rendering an image with little bits of glass and tile. Several years ago, I bought a kiln and started dabbling with fused glass – making bowls, plates, platters and 3-D landscape pieces. Every new technique presents another challenge! I have taught classes in community centers, glass shops and occasionally at my own home, including beginning stained glass, mosaics, beginning fused glass, heart pendants, Christmas ornaments and paint-pour projects with glass enamel. I recently moved back to the Pacific Northwest (after 40+ years in Minneapolis) and look forward to establishing myself among artists in this region. CAA Artist, Katie Trent, will be teaching more classes this spring through the Jansen Art Center in Lynden. She has a number of beginner-oriented classes for both children and adults. Many of the classes are in Lynden but Beginning Stained Glass will be held in a weekend workshop at her studio in Mount Vernon. She teaches everything from Intro to Glass Fusing, to Rendering Mosaics with Glass to Fused Glass Earrings! Check the Jansen Art Center website for details: Jansen Art Center Website
