From our I Grew Up in Carmel series: Meet Bart Burrell on August 20! 🏀📚 Carmel community, we have a very special homecoming event you won’t want to miss. On Thursday, August 20 at 2:00 PM, join us here at the museum to welcome back hometown legend Bart Burrell! Many lifelong residents remember Bart as a standout leader on Carmel High School’s 1977 State Championship basketball team before he went on to become an all-time great wide receiver for Purdue University. But Bart’s most incredible victory didn’t happen on a sports field. Come hear Bart share his jaw-dropping, inspiring story chronicled in his book, Bart’s Heart. After facing a terminal rare diagnosis at age 40, Bart defied all odds through a life-saving stem cell transplant—only to face an incredibly rare, combined heart and liver transplant fourteen years later.
