About this event

Couldn't load pickup availability Saturday, November 7, 11:00am - 12:30pm PT. This is an online workshop held via Zoom. As the days grow shorter, fire becomes a welcome source of light and warmth. In this workshop, we’ll explore the phenomenon of fire through the medium of watercolor. Painting fire can be surprisingly tricky: it glows, flickers, shifts, and seems to resist being captured. Rather than aiming for a photorealistic representation, we’ll explore how to loosely translate the glow into paint. Painting fire with watercolor might seem almost contradictory: fire and water are natural opposites. But the fluidity of watercolor lends itself well to the movement of flames. We’ll pay attention to the balance between control and spontaneity that makes watercolor so well suited to a luminous subject that is constantly in motion. Reference images will be provided, and you’re also welcome to bring your own sources of inspiration. All levels welcome. Join Zoom 15 minutes early for an informal meet and greet with the instructor and class participants! Class will begin promptly at 5 minutes past the hour, so everyone has plenty of time to create!
