About this event
@ Howard Hawks directed Paul Muni as the ruthless Tony Camonte, who shoots his way to the top of the underworld, aided by his sidekick Rinaldo, played by George Raft. This thinly veiled portrayal of Al Capone, complete with the Chicago Massacre, was the most controversial and most intense of all the great gangster films from the era, with a screenplay by Ben Hecht, who knew many mobsters from his newspaper days in Chicago. Mark Tiarks, a frequent Pasatiempo writer and popular Renesan presenter, provides a 25-minute introduction before the 93-minute film.
