@ Ro, a young woman with a dwindling dance career returns home after many years to meet her biological father (Tate Donovan) for the first time. Born to Susan (Amy Aquino), a lesbian who opted for insemination, Ro grapples with the complexities of her unconventional family dynamic and soon forms a bond at her new job with three lively 80-year-olds, who help her reconnect with her family, her roots and herself. Lauren Caster is a writer, director, and actor whose work explores contemporary personal narratives with wit, emotional depth, and a distinctly human point of view. Her filmmaking blends relatable, lived-in characters with naturalistic imagery, resulting in stories that feel both intimate and resonant. Her debut feature, Rhythm Is a Dancer, starring Amy Aquino and Tate Donovan, premiered at the Austin Film Festival and was acquired for distribution by Utopia’s Circle Collective following a competitive market showing at AFM. Lauren has also written and directed three acclaimed short films—Donor Baby, Plan C, and Becoming—with Donor Baby acquired by Amazon. Her work was further recognized when she became the inaugural winner of The Wrap’s Pitchfest for emerging female filmmakers, leading to her award-winning story You’re Not Supposed to Be Here, starring Chrishell Stause and Diora Baird, being produced as a Lifetime Original, where she served as associate producer.
