Guided Tour: Seeking Freedom

Public guided tours are offered most weekends and holiday Mondays. All tours require admission with a suggested ticket price of $10 per person and begin at CBMM’s Welcome Center. Public tours and general admission are free for CBMM members, and members can make reservations here. In this Seeking Freedom Guided Tour, uncover the stories of freedom seekers in the Chesapeake. Living in proximity to the Chesapeake’s marshes, creeks, and rivers, enslaved people used their access and knowledge to self-emancipate. On this tour, guests will explore the perspectives of four different Chesapeake figures who sought freedom in different ways: Frederick Douglass, his sister Eliza Bailey Mitchell, Joseph Keene, and Henry “Box” Brown.
