Intro to Sailing Small Craft Friday, June 5 | 8am-1pm (Feb. 3 update: This Shipyard Program is now full. You can use the links below to join our waitlist and also sign up for our June 6 course offering here. Click here to explore more upcoming Shipyard Programming.) Join us Friday, June 5, for an introductory course in sailing small craft on the Miles River. You will learn how to sail a simple vessel under 20-feet in length, which can be singlehanded, with one-on-one instruction from a seasoned sailor from our Shipyard staff. These classes are highly tailored to the individual. Some new sailors learn well by getting out on the water and putting their hand on the tiller before the theoretical introduction, others will appreciate a careful explanation on the dock first. Our instructors can accommodate your comfort in the vessel and your learning style. Should you prefer to listen and observe we can allow for that as well. We’ll utilize CBMM vessels Cinnamon Girl (Choptank two-sail crab skiff) and Delaware Ducker (Greenbrier Model). Please bring a hat, comfortable and weather appropriate clothing, sun glasses, a full water bottle, sun screen, and a notebook. Participants are required to be able to make their way unassisted from a dock into a vessel, similar to boarding a kayak. Participants must also be able to swim. A life jacket and all other required safety equipment will be provided and available. This course will also be offered on Saturday, June 6.
