Three of today’s most celebrated musicians — piano legend Evgeny Kissin, violin icon Maxim Vengerov and cello virtuoso Gautier Capuçon — explore how Beethoven revolutionized the once-humble and domestic piano trio with newfound passion and expressivity. The Op. 1, No. 3 trio was a breakthrough work, its fiery spirit and individuality enough to make Haydn envious. The Ghost Trio chills with its ominous second movement, while the Archduke Trio is among the towering landmarks of Beethoven’s chamber music output — aristocratic, boisterous and tender.
