· Longmont Museum Registration required This program is in English Join us for a free film screening to kick off Banned Books Week 2026, a national week promoting intellectual freedom. Before and after the film, we will have resources available in support of the freedom to read and advocacy for marginalized groups. The American Library Association tracks book banning: 4,235 unique titles were challenged in 2025, the second highest number ever documented. 1,671 (40%) of those books represent the lived experiences of LGBTQIA+ people and people of color. Banned Together follows three students from Beaufort, South Carolina, who joined forces as members of Diversity Awareness Youth Literacy Organization (DAYLO), and their adult allies as they fight to reinstate 97 books suddenly pulled from their school libraries. The books were removed as part of a nationwide assault of educational freedom that takes aim at literature that features BIPOC and LGBTQ+ experiences.
