About this event
One of 11 upcoming events at City Parks Foundation, and 12,478 across New York City.
Join us at the NYC Parks Plant Ecology Center and Nursery (PECAN) for a hands-on seed cleaning workshop! The Seed Increase Program collects seeds from native plants for use in restoration projects throughout the five boroughs. PECAN staff will demonstrate seed cleaning techniques and equipment usage, along with discussion of seed collection, drying, testing, and storage practices. After this introduction, participants will have time to harvest and clean seeds themselves. You are also welcome to bring seeds from your own garden or green space for cleaning. Bagels and coffee will be provided. Please come prepared wearing long sleeves, long pants, and closed-toe shoes. Masks will be provided, but you can expect to get a bit dusty. Walking paths at the site can be muddy and/or uneven; please reach out if you have any concerns to [email protected]. Free transportation available from lower Manhattan. Details will be sent to those who register.
