February Monthly Meeting

Eastern European Genealogy for Beginners Alexander Tolksdorf Unlock the Story of Your Eastern European Ancestors Ready to take your family history research beyond the basics? This presentation will give beginners the tools and historical context they need to start uncovering their ancestors across Eastern Europe. We’ll explore the region’s early modern and modern history, examine key genealogical records and repositories by country, and uncover research strategies on both sides of the Atlantic. Whether you’re just beginning your journey or unsure where to look next, you’ll learn how to navigate historical boundaries, identify the records most likely to hold answers, and build effective U.S. and European research strategies to maximize your chances of success. Most importantly, you’ll leave with a clearer roadmap for turning names and dates into the stories of the people who came before you.
