Matilda The Musical

Matilda the Musical is a family-friendly musical based on the beloved story by Roald Dahl. The production is generally appropriate for elementary through high school students; however, educators are encouraged to consider the maturity and sensitivity of their individual students when determining whether the performance is appropriate for their group. The story includes themes of bullying, unfair treatment by adults, difficult family relationships, and children standing up to intimidating authority figures. Miss Trunchbull is intentionally exaggerated and comically frightening, and some scenes include threats, yelling, and humorous references to punishment. There are also references to neglectful parenting and characters occasionally use mild insults or name-calling. These elements are presented in a theatrical, comedic, and fantastical manner rather than realistically. Ultimately, Matilda carries positive messages about courage, kindness, friendship, resilience, the importance of education, and finding the confidence to stand up for yourself and others.
